Idyll doesn't collect your data. There's no Idyll account, no analytics, no advertising and no trackers in any version of Idyll. Nothing you do in Idyll is sent to us, because Idyll has no servers that receive it.

Your logins

When you open YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X, Snapchat, TikTok, Reddit, LinkedIn, Threads or Substack inside Idyll, you sign in directly with that service on its own page. Idyll doesn't read, keep or send your username or password. The service sets its usual login cookie, which your phone keeps on the device so you stay signed in. Deleting Idyll or using Sign out everywhere in settings removes it.

If something is playing when you leave Idyll, it keeps playing, with controls on your lock screen. To show them, Idyll reads what any media player shows: the title, the artist if the site gives one (on X, the name of whoever posted the video and the words of that post), how far through you are, and one small still frame of the video. These go only to your phone's own media controls. They are never saved and never sent anywhere.

What stays on your device

iPhone

The Safari content blocker gives Safari a list of rules, and Safari applies them itself. Idyll can't read the pages you visit. Daily allowances, Focus and Sleep use Apple's Screen Time frameworks, which give Idyll anonymous tokens for the apps you choose, not your activity. That information stays on your iPhone.

Android

Idyll uses Android's Accessibility permission to notice, on your phone, when a feed like Reels or Shorts opens inside a supported app, and to step away from it. It checks which app is in front, looks at the screen only when that is a supported app, uses it only for that purpose, and doesn't store or send anything it sees. Usage access is used to show your own screen time stats on the device.

Idyll's browser on Android is Android System WebView, with Google Safe Browsing on: WebView checks the addresses you visit against Google's list of dangerous sites, as Chrome does. That check is Google's, not Idyll's, and Idyll sees none of it.

Chrome

The Idyll extension runs only on the sites it cleans. It saves your settings in the browser's local storage on your computer and makes no network requests of its own.

Tips

Tipping is optional and unlocks nothing. If you tip, Apple or Google handles the payment through your App Store or Google Play account, and Idyll never learns who you are.

On Android, tips use Google Play Billing, Google's own payment library and the one piece of code in Idyll that isn't ours. It only starts if you open the tip screen.

On iPhone, tips use Apple's StoreKit. Apple handles the payment, and Idyll keeps nothing about it.

You can also tip on Ko-fi from the website. Ko-fi handles that payment, under its own privacy policy, and Idyll gets no data from it beyond what you choose to share there.

Check it yourself

Idyll shows you every site its browser has talked to in the last week, under What Idyll connects to in settings. On iPhone, Settings, Privacy and Security, App Privacy Report shows the same from Apple's side.

The services themselves

When you use YouTube, Instagram and the others through Idyll, you're still using their services, and their own privacy policies apply to what you do there.

Children

Idyll is a general audience app and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Idyll will not start collecting data in exchange for keeping it free.
